Role and Responsibilities

We are seeking a Senior Associate to join the firm's Nashville office. The Senior Associate will work side-by-side with Health Velocity Capital's partners in both Nashville and San Francisco. The Senior Associate will be expected to:

Source and assess new investment ideas:

  • Develop clear understanding of an ideal Health Velocity Capital investment opportunity
  • Identify potential investment opportunities through cold call sourcing and network development
  • Independently and professionally conduct initial calls and meetings with prospective investment opportunities and categorize appropriateness for Health Velocity Capital as follows: not worth following up, track closely over time for continuing development, or recommend immediate partner follow-up for current investment consideration
  • Refine existing database to track and monitor sourcing activities
  • Actively network for access to deal and information flow
  • Research and screen potential investment opportunities, ideas and technologies
  • Log all deals sent to partners into deal database

Strategic LP management:

  • Ensure that strategic limited partners and portfolio companies are routinely and professionally asked to identify prospective investment candidates and track leads.
  • Prepare standard strategic limited partner presentation materials and keep track of themes and companies of interest to present.
  • Ensure that meetings with strategic limited partners happen at the required intervals.

Perform due diligence on new investment opportunities:

  • Perform financial analysis, create return models, and screen comparable private and public transactions
  • Analyze market size, competitive landscape and market segments
  • Identify and engage domain experts for answers to specific questions
  • Participate in diligence calls
  • Help compile commitment committee memos
  • Prepare key diligence questions in advance of all diligence calls
  • Type up all diligence notes and input in deals database (all partners do this as well)
  • Input competitive market intelligence regarding other innovative companies into deals database
  • Maintain comparable exit multiples database
  • Assist existing portfolio companies:
  • Leverage personal skills and network to assist portfolio companies in any way
  • Bring to bear the full weight of the firm's network on behalf of portfolio companies
  • Broker business development relationships

Work closely with the Partners on a wide range of other fund operations, including:

  • Prepare a quarterly message to be sent to appropriate HVC contacts that includes portfolio company updates, portfolio company press releases, CEO and advisory board interviews, and teasers seeking deal flow
  • Take calls and meetings on behalf of partners and professionally represent the firm in these calls and meetings
  • Be a visible presence for Health Velocity Capital at local events and at conferences
  • Research and understand various policy initiatives
  • Participate in outreach initiatives to bolster the firm’s reach and reputation
  • Assist with quarterly valuation process and analytics

The Nashville office is currently a small office with one partner who travels frequently, so the candidate must be a self-starter and comfortable working in this kind of environment. The Senior Associate role may also result in frequent domestic travel.


  • 3 – 6 years of total prior work experience
  • Analytic and quantitative skills needed to review financial and market projections, balance sheets, and operating plans of potential and existing investments
  • Work experience at a health care services or health care information technology company OR work experience in venture capital, private equity, strategy consulting, investment banking, or equity research with a specific focus on health care services or health care information technology
  • A passion for the health care industry
  • Record of strong academic performance from a leading undergraduate institution
  • MBA from a leading institution (preferred, not necessary)
